Traditional Estonian Men's Songs - Mats alati on tubli mees (Lüü-türr)

Cheerfull Estonian folk song, performed by men's folk group Lüü-türr in Lithuanian folk festival. This songs tells a story set in a time in Estonia when there were slaves and Baltic-German slave-owners: on a regular day Mats, a great Estonian guy, was wandering about, minding his own business, when a German sees him and demands he remove his hat as a gesture of respect. When Mats refuses (because no great Estonian should respect their slave owners!), the German threatens to beat him and even hang him. So, reluctantly, Mats removes his hat.
