Campane a festa Chiesa San Matteo Apostolo - Rocca San Giovanni (CH) ABRUZZO Drone/cella campanaria
In this video I'm in Rocca San Giovanni, an Italian municipality in the province of Chieti in Abruzzo. It stands on a rocky hill between the municipalities of San Vito Chietino and Fossacesia and overlooks the splendid Costa dei trabocchi. Inside the town of Rocca San Giovanni, on the large Piazza degli Eroi, there is the parish church of San Matteo Apostolo. Its origins date back to 1076 by the Benedictine abbot Odorisio I, with the building of the castrum of Rocca San Giovanni. The medieval building copies the Abbey of San Giovanni in Venere in smaller dimensions. The 1927 façade, with a modern brick cladding, is of the four-slope basilica type with a large glazed rose window and an architraved portal underneath with an original archivolt frame and a golden mosaic lunette. The interior develops with a longitudinal layout with three naves divided by low pillars and large pointed arches and includes three chapels on the left nave. The central nave of the church is covered with wooden trusses, joists and decorated tiles. The side naves initially have a wooden roof with beams and tiles and in the final part with barrel vaults. The first left side chapel has a ribbed cross vault, the second chapel has a cross vault with a rectangular plan and the third chapel has a ribbed vault with a rectangular plan. The external roof is double-pitched with a tile covering. The interior is essentially of original and restored medieval shapes, decorated with stone frames and moldings and polychrome stained glass windows. The first side chapel is decorated with an imposing baroque wooden altar, the second with a baroque style masonry and stucco altar, the third with a masonry altar with order and tympanum. On the right side of the facade stands the isolated bell and civic tower owned by the municipality, added between the 14th and 15th centuries. In the belfry it hosts a concert of 4 electrified swing and hammer bells with striker maintained by the A.C.O. company. of Fara Filiorum Petri (CH). The wrought iron spire at the top of the tower houses two bells to ring the hours and quarters. In the video we see the festive ringing of the 3 major bells programmed in an exceptional way by the undersigned and the descending plenum ringing performed in manual electric. The plays were performed as the last sign of the festive Holy Mass on a Sunday in August 2021.
