Criminosos usam IA para desviar doações de crianças doentes

A criminal gang that used images of sick children to divert donation money was the target of a major police operation carried out this Tuesday (14) in five Brazilian states. So far, 16 people have been arrested. The operation was named "Sofia" in honor of a girl whose legitimate campaign was cloned by the scammers. The child's mother reported it to the police after discovering that the information shared on social media was being misused. With this, investigators identified a sophisticated scheme involving real photos and videos of the victims. The criminals created pages identical to the originals and redirected potential donors to fake websites where payments were made via Pix (Brazil's instant payment system). The amounts raised ended up in bank accounts controlled by the gang. In just one of these investigated accounts, there was a movement of over R$ 1 million.
