The Mohawk River Has Changed... (And It's Not Good)

The Mohawk River has been changing, and I wanted to see how those changes were affecting the bass fishing. Join me as I explore the Saratoga and Albany County sections of the Mohawk River in search of summertime bass. Between the spread of invasive water chestnut and reports of invasive gobies making their way down the river from the Great Lakes, I was curious to see what the fishery looked like. Unfortunately, Mother Nature had other plans. Muddy water, almost no current, and difficult fishing conditions made for a challenging day on the water. I spent most of the day flipping thick water chestnut mats hoping to connect with a giant largemouth, but despite changing locations and giving it everything I had, the bites were few and far between. Not every fishing trip goes according to plan, and that's part of the adventure.
