Early spring pike fishing on the Royal Canal in Ireland can be unpredictable, but this session was something else. Only one pike spotted, no baitfish, and no perch anywhere. Is it too early for canal predator fishing in Ireland, or have the fish simply disappeared I headed to the Royal Canal to see if there were any signs of life as spring begins. Moving between multiple spots, scanning the water, and covering ground, I was expecting at least some activity. Instead, I saw just one single pike and no visible baitfish or perch. The canal felt empty. No follows, no signs of predators feeding, and very little movement in the water.
