Nicaraguan HANGOVER CURE!! Beef Stomach Stew + Furniture Craftsmen in Masatepe, Nicaragua!!

🇳🇮VISIT NICARAGUA:   / visitanicaragua   🇳🇮CARLOS:   / carlostapiapineda   🌎 MY TRAVEL/FOOD BLOG: https://davidsbeenhere.com/ My road trip through Nicaragua continued with a stop in Masatepe, a small town outside of Masaya. We were there to try a special dish called mondongo, which is made from calf tripe and feet! Come with me as we eat the Nicaraguan delicacy called mondongo and explore Masatepe! You can’t visit Masatepe without trying mondongo, and the town is also famous for its furniture makers! They make chairs, sofas, rocking chairs, and more. But first, we were starting at El Rancho del Mondongo to eat! 👕 DAVID’S BEEN HERE MERCH: https://teespring.com/stores/davids-b... The restaurant is rustic and open-air, with high ceilings. There, my guide Carlos and I met with Judith, who would walk us through how to make mondongo. First we saw the vegetables they use: corn, cassava, ginger, lettuce, squash, and more. I saw them cooking the tripe and beginning the soup. It contained a couple of different types of corn, calf ribs, cabbage, and more. It also contains calf feet, which I normally don’t like because there’s no meat on them! I’d be trying the mondongo and the ribs soup, along with rum plata, which is the official mondongo drink in Nicaragua. First, I started on the tripe, which was incredible and spongy! I loved the earthy, iron-rich flavor of the meat, as well as lots of fat and vegetables. I even liked the feet, which had some meat on them! The ribs in the rib soup were so tender, they fell apart in my mouth! On the side, we had tortillas, avocado, lemon, salt, cheese, and rice. The rum with the lemon and salt was great. Then, we put the cheese and avocado in the tortilla. It’s great, but if you dunk it into the soup, it’s even better! After eating, it was time to tour the town and see the local furniture! It only took a three-minute drive for us to make it to Mercado de Artesanias Mazatepelth in the central part of town. There were lots of wicker chairs and wicker baskets, as well as wooden tables, wooden chairs, storage ottomans, and more in the furniture factory. They showed me some bread baskets I like, as well as laundry hampers, and more. Everything was so beautiful! The woman gave me a bread basket as a gift and I also bought a corner shelf. I was hoping to come back on the last day of my trip to pick it up! Then, we drove three more minutes to a Muebles Zulema, where they carve wooden furniture! I loved the rocking chairs, which were beautiful! They had horses carved on the sides. You can get a set of 4 and a table for $400 USD. The craftsmanship was incredible! I could also see people sanding down pieces of a table that they’d glued together. They even had a full bar and a table with legs carved to look like a lion and its feet! Finally, we drove back to Granada to see the border on Lake Nicaragua. It’s beautiful! Tomorrow, we’d be heading to Ometepe, the largest island in a freshwater lake in the world. But for now, we grabbed some coconuts from a vendor! We drank the water out of them, which was sweet and refreshing! What a great way to wrap up my time in the area! Where have you been?
