The Portland and Bangor, DL&W junction in Portland PA. Northampton County.
Hello friends. Hope everyone in the cold part of the country is staying warm. Here is a video from warmer days back in the middle of January. This is an area I’m just learning about so any constructive criticism would be greatly welcomed. This is the location where the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western railroad interchanged with the Bangor and Portland Railroad. The B&P was incorporated in 1879 and began operations in 1880. The B&P provided a great link to the best slate available. Slate at one time was a very popular commodity, used for rooftops, blackboards and sidewalks, slate was once highly sought after commodity. As slate sputtered out and cement became the new standard, the B&P would still provide a key route to this cement by way of Bath PA. For these commodities alone it makes sense that the DL&W would eventually absorb this line as their own. Let’s go stumbling through the woods as I try to explain my thoughts through video. If you have a chance go check out @BryceHunsinger. He had been a help throughout the past few months. Thank you for watching. Filmed 1/13/26
