Chapter 11 - Ex. 41 & Grammalogues - Initial hook for R and L (Pitman Shorthand video-94)

In this video, we are writing paragraph in shorthand, exercise 41 from the book and doing more grammalogues. Initial hook for the sound of R and L with straight and curved strokes 1. A small initial hook written with the right motion adds r to simple straight strokes except the stroke of R (ray). e.g pray, bright etc. 2. A small initial hook written with the left motion adds l to simple straight strokes except the stroke of R (ray) e.g play, blow etc. 3. A small initial hook, written inside the curve adds r to a curved stroke e.g offer, author etc. 4. A large initial hook, written inside the curve, adds l to a curved stroke e.g flow, flavour etc. 5. Shr is always written downward e.g usher etc. and shl is always written upward e.g official etc. 6. Ng with a small initial hook represents the sound of ng-kr or ng-gr. 7. Vowels are placed and read to the hooked forms as they are placed and read to the simple forms e.g pie, ply etc. The long vowels (thick dot and thick dash) can be remembered by repeating the sentence "Pa may we all go too?" i.e word pa giving sound ah, may - a, we - e, all - aw, go - o, too - oo. The short vowels (light dot and light dash) can be remembered by repeating the sentence "That pen is not much good". i.e word that giving sound a, pen - e, is - i, not - o, much - u, good - oo. Always practice Pitman Shorthand with pencil and make the thin strokes, light vowel signs LIGHT and thick strokes, dark vowel signs DARK. Pitman Shorthand language increases the speed, fluency in writing. We write English words in shorthand with the help of signs, symbols, strokes and also long/frequently occurring words by a single sign. It saves the space and our precious time.
