Urasenke Misonodana Tea Ceremony Pasadena Obonathon
The Pasadena Buddhist Temple housed a tea house, sent from Japan, Seifu-an, until 2011. A tea ceremony was held there at every Obon. During his artist residency at the temple, artist Alan Hiroshi Nakagawa, initiated his Invisible Teahouse Project to commemorate, archive and send into the future the legacy of the teahouse. He commissioned or built several items that are being used for the first time in a tea ceremony at the temple teahouse site. The ceremony will be performed by Kyoko Gibbs. Her guest is Max Geldman, the artist who built the misonodana. The narrator is Jose Salcedo, the successor Urasenke Sensei (teacher) to Mrs. Sakahara, the long-time tea ceremony instructor at the teahouse.
