See Festival Gardens back when it first opened

Built on a landfill site over four decades ago, Liverpool's International Garden Festival was created in the 1980s and was something completely new and different in the city. During the decade, many will remember the mammoth 100 acres of severely polluted land in the area of Otterspool was selected to be transformed into a sprawling plot of gardens. As a major step forward is confirmed for the huge housing project at 'one of Liverpool's best sites,' we wanted to take another look back at the Liverpool International Garden Festival site when it first opened back in 1984.
