Steam Locomotive Richboro Makes its Season Debut on the Aln Valley Railway

Steam locomotive Richboro makes its 2023 season debut on the Aln Valley Railway, as do I! It's a glorious day in north-Northumberland, with cloudless blue skies and the sun beating down on God's allotment. Richboro, a Hudswell Clarke 0-6-0T, was built in Leeds in 1917 and is owned by the Aln Valley Railway, having undergone years of painstaking restoration work. During the day we see Richboro making a number of journeys down the 1.5 mile line to Greenrigg Halt. Filming from various vantage points, we experience an intimate look at the locomotive's operation and enjoy the breathtaking Northumbrian countryside along the way. Later on, as if Richboro's inaugural run of the 2023 season isn't notable enough, we see a very special, behind closed doors steam test run of the railway's NER 41 six wheel Directors’ Saloon built in 1896. The AVR is a tremendous project. They have a dedicated team of volunteers who have slogged away tirelessly over the last few years. I am looking forward to them completing the link between Alnwick and Alnmouth and providing a valuable regular connection to the East Coast Main Line. If you're in north-Northumberland please do pay the Aln Valley Railway a visit. If you live locally and have some spare time on your hands, the railway is always looking for new volunteers.
