President Pledges Development for Itezhi Tezhi
By Moombe Hamoobola President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA has pledged to rehabilitate existing roads and construct new ones in Itezhi Tezhi District as part of efforts to unlock its economic potential. Addressing thousands of residents during a community engagement in the district today, President HICHILEMA said electricity will be extended to areas where roads are rehabilitated to support development. The President also said the government will promote mining activities in Itezhi Tezhi, noting that the district has significant mineral resources. He said local miners will be issued with licences, while the government will provide training and facilitate access to markets. President HICHILEMA also called on residents to protect the environment by avoiding indiscriminate movement of livestock and ending bush burning. He announced that the government will construct a district hospital, build more boarding schools, establish a skills training centre and improve feeder roads across the district. The President added that the government will continue improving the welfare of fishermen and investing in education, healthcare and other public services. Meanwhile, Chief CHIKAZA MUNYAMA, speaking on behalf of six other traditional leaders, thanked President HICHILEMA for the development projects being implemented in Itezhi Tezhi, saying the district has recorded notable progress since the UPND formed government. Southern Province UPND Chairperson BILLIARD MAKWEMBO said the district has benefited from the Constituency Development Fund and credited the government's development agenda for the progress recorded. UPND Alliance member MILES SAMPA appealed to residents to support President HICHILEMA and UPND candidates in the August 13, General Election. Meanwhile, former PF Member GREYFORD MONDE announced that he has rejoined the UPND and urged the people of Itezhi Tezhi to vote for the ruling party in next month's elections.
