Best Himachali Dhaba Food in Manali |Kangana Ranaut’s Mountain Story, Siddu, Alfajor, Lugdi, Thentuk
This Manali food tour is all about slowing down, eating local, and discovering stories behind popular eateries. Hosted by Khusboo Barry, the journey focuses largely on dhabas and some new places that reflect the everyday food culture of the region. We began at Bread of Life, a South American bakery started by Juan Carlos, who hails from Chile, along with his wife from Bolivia. They found their home in Manali and built this warm little bakery rooted in memories and comfort. From empanadas with tartar sauce to alfajors born out of nostalgia, the food here carries personal stories and a beautiful cross-continental connection. Our next stop was Fat Plate Manali, where we met Anubhav and his mother, the force behind Rati’s Homemade Preserves, jams, and pickles. Her journey is truly inspiring. From being an ex-principal to becoming an entrepreneur. She lovingly walked us through how it all started, the local fruits she works with, and the best ways to enjoy her products. Simple, honest, and full of warmth, just like her preserves. We then headed to Kalzang Dhaba, a cosy, home-style setup offering comfort food with a view. This is the kind of place where you feel instantly welcome. We tried rice beer, veg momo, siddu, rajma chawal, fiddlehead fern sabzi, and shakkar ghee roti. The food was divine and the mountain views simply unforgettable. While trekking nearby, we met local shepherds from the Gaddi tribe. Sitting and talking with them gave us insight into their food habits, lifestyle, and the struggles they face in the mountains. Our next destination was The Village Café, where we enjoyed pasta and thenthuk. The owner shared stories about the café, its beginnings, and their journey in Manali, making the meal even more memorable. We wrapped up the tour at The Mountain Story, a restaurant by Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut. Here, we tried the Pahadi non-vegetarian thali featuring local delicacies. The food was satisfying, and the ambience reflected a strong regional identity. This episode is a mix of dhabas, restaurants, heartfelt stories, and local encounters that gives a glimpse into Manali beyond the usual tourist lens.
