Sam Kieth's Official Blog: https://samkieth.blogspot.com/ In 1993 the wildly popular Sam Kieth launched one of the most original comics of all time, The Maxx. Earning an MTV Animated series adaptation on their Oddities block, two series of trading cards, and an audio adaptation entitled Maxximum Sound. Then the series abruptly stopped publishing with issue 35 and it would be two long years before Sam Kieth ever released anything again. His work from that point on was and still is, chronically late, and has radically shifted in tone and quality. But what drove Sam Kieth to basically walk away from the comic industry with out so much as a word to anyone? It's taken me almost a year, but I think I've finally managed to assemble a pretty complete picture of How The Maxx Broke Sam Kieth. It drove him crazy and completely destroyed any and all love that he once might have had for that style of illustration and most superhero stuff in general as well. Join me tonight as we follow Kieth as he struggles to overcome the innumerable obstacles that seemed to be placed in his way at every turn, and the groundbreaking work on his creator-owned property The Maxx that skyrocketed him into stardom overnight after nearly a decade toiling in obscurity.
