Finally, things were moving up on my journey to the Pacific. Russia, the largest country in the world, is gigantic: it stretches all across Eurasia, going from Poland and the Baltics in the west to North Korea and Japan in the east. It even shares a maritime border with the US. But until reaching Ekaterinburg, I hadn’t seen many mountains. The vast majority of Russia’s land is Siberia, and the official starting point for Siberia is the Ural Mountains. It’s also the official border between Europe and Asia, which is fun. I wanted to go exploring, but I was all on my own and didn’t know where to go.
