Panic attacks. Anxiety attacks. Hello, my dear listeners. Today I'm sharing this guided meditation to use in those moments when stress, fear, or anxiety take over. It's even a good meditation for moments when we might suffer panic attacks. I know very well what this is because I've had anxiety and panic attacks many times throughout my life, since I was a teenager (life has its difficulties :) What I want to share with you is that I managed to overcome them. We never stop feeling anxiety or fear, as it's a part of life and is especially virulent when we are sensitive people... but there is a way to live with it, to manage it better, to reduce its symptoms. What's the key? Stop being afraid of fear, stop wanting to avoid it, stop resisting anxiety itself. That was the key for me. When I stopped being afraid of it and faced the symptoms head-on, recognizing them as an anxiety attack, the attacks disappeared. That doesn't mean I don't feel anxiety many times in my life, but what I do is what I propose in this meditation: observe and accept ourselves... in my own experience, it's the best way to control the symptoms. As with many other things in life, when we reject something because it's uncomfortable; when we resist feeling certain things, we end up increasing the symptoms and discomfort. Sometimes, the best way to avoid suffering is to let it be, accepting that we feel what we feel, and in this way, although it's still uncomfortable, it's much more bearable. If you feel anxiety or are even suffering from a panic attack, I suggest you observe yourself and face it head-on... What do you feel? Where do you feel it? Can you put a color to that discomfort? How intensely do you feel it? The key is to become an observer and experience, from an emotional distance, as if you were a spectator, all the symptoms. Remember that anxiety is just one experience, not the totality of your experience. That anxiety is not you; it's just an experience that, like everything else, will pass. When I was a teenager and had panic attacks, I thought all kinds of things were happening: that I was sick, that I was going to drown, that I was going to have a heart attack... during panic attacks or anxiety attacks, all kinds of irrational thoughts go through your head. But I discovered that when, instead of trying to avoid them, I faced them head-on, let the sensations arrive, and observed them, even analyzing them with curiosity, I became an observer and stopped completely identifying with the experience. I was able to distance myself emotionally and thus experience it with less suffering.
