01:35 Epidemiological Factors 05:04 Flashy People 06:05 People Who Don't Ask for Consultation, Angry People 07:01 Suicide Reports Today, I'll be discussing the "Characteristics of Suiciders," and the risk factors for suicide, including those who are more likely to commit suicide. I'll also discuss what to look out for and how to handle reports of suicide. Epidemiological studies have provided a fair amount of information about the issues faced by people who unfortunately end up self-harming or even dying from self-harm. Psychiatrists are advised to be careful of these types of people based on epidemiological studies. With that in mind, I'd like to list some patterns of people I personally consider to be at risk. I suspect this image is far removed from what you might imagine as a "person likely to commit suicide." ■Epidemiological Factors ・Presence or Absence of Mental Disorders People with mental disorders are more likely to commit suicide. Typical issues include depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, personality disorders, alcoholism, and anxiety disorders. ・Debt, Poverty Indebtedness, household debt, and poverty are also characteristics of people more likely to commit suicide. ・Abuse, Crime, Disaster, Suicide Having been or being abused, being a victim of crime or disaster, having a close friend who committed suicide, having a relative who committed suicide, or having recently experienced such an event are also factors that make people more likely to commit suicide. This category corresponds to "PTSD." ・Marital Status, Single, Male, LGBTQ In terms of family environment, single people, single people, and LGBTQ people are said to be at higher risk of suicide. This category covers family environment and sexuality. Women are more likely to wish they had died than men, but it is said that more men actually commit suicide. Suicides among young people, such as teenagers, are often closely related to LGBTQ issues. Physical Illness, Pain, Pre- and Post-Pregnancy Suicide risk is said to be higher for those who suffer from chronic physical illness or pain, both before and after pregnancy. Physical illnesses, especially cancer, are particularly prevalent. It's been found that suicide is more common among those diagnosed with cancer. Antidepressants Like alcohol and drugs, antidepressants are also known to increase suicide risk. For people in their teens and early twenties, antidepressants are said to increase suicide risk. One possible reason for this could be that a person diagnosed with depression actually had bipolar disorder, and the antidepressant caused them to fall into a mixed bipolar state. Antidepressants themselves can cause irritability, which could lead to suicide in various cases. These are known epidemiological risk factors. Extravagant People When examining each one, a variety of thoughts and opinions emerge. ■Extravagant People You might think that people who are likely to die are quiet and timid. However, this is surprisingly not the case; on the contrary, they are often flamboyant at first glance. Outlaw and flashy people, such as those with tattoos, who use drugs or alcohol, are sexually promiscuous, or who have heavy gambling debts, are at higher risk of suicide. Breaking this down further, it leads to the epidemiological factors mentioned earlier. Gambling leads to poverty and debt. Sexual promiscuity is also related to issues of abuse, mental disorders, impulsivity, and being single. The same goes for drugs and alcohol. The outlaw world of tattoos is also strongly linked to poverty and abuse. Therefore, being "flashy" is a risk factor. ■ People who don't seek advice, and angry people Going a little deeper, there are "people who don't seek advice." People who don't seek advice are at higher risk. However, there are also "people who can't seek advice." They have difficulty putting their feelings into words. People who don't know how to talk, and are poor conversationalists, are at higher risk of suicide. People who are simply irritated and angry, and who blame others or take it out on others rather than enduring it or resolving it as their own problem, are also at high risk. People who don't trust psychiatrists. I also think people who say, "Just give me some medicine and I'll be fine" are dangerous. ■Suicide Reporting Another important point is "suicide reporting." It has been shown that when people hear about the death of a celebrity in the news, the suicide rate increases. General suicide stories rarely increase the suicide rate. However, when the death of a famous person or celebrity is covered in the news, the risk increases. It is also known that the more information is given about the method of death, the higher the risk. Therefore, reporting must be done with care. There are guidelines for reporting, so I hope that reporting will be done in accordance with them. Furthermore, it is important to properly respect the individual's privacy. It ...
