We begin our tour just across the French border in Sarreguemines, and after the first few meters, you'll feel like you're on vacation. Boats are moored at the water's edge, the sun is shining, and it feels more like the south than Germany. Together with Felix behind the camera, our first stop is the panoramic swing. Along the way, we even cross the border between Germany and France, suddenly finding ourselves with one foot in each country. It's precisely these little moments that make this tour so special. The path leads us through dense forests. The sun breaks through the fresh, light green leaves, and birdsong fills the air. It feels like spring, like a new beginning, and like the perfect start to the hiking season. One of my first highlights is the panoramic swing above Wolfersheim. From up here, you have a breathtaking view of the rolling hills typical of this region. And yes, of course, I tested how high you can swing. The next day, we continue towards Kirkel. We can see the striking castle ruins from afar. The climb is quite challenging, with many stairs and ladders, but once we reach the top, we're rewarded with a fantastic view of the surrounding area. The castle was first mentioned in 1075 and has a rich and eventful history. Our path continues through an impressive rocky landscape. Mighty sandstone formations rise up beside us, shimmering in a variety of colors and seeming almost like something from another era. Some resemble figures or animals, and this is precisely what makes this section so special. We discover places steeped in legend, such as the Unglücksfelsen (Illusory Rock), hike past historical traces, and finally reach the remains of a former monastery. Shortly afterward, we delve even deeper into history and visit a Roman excavation site, gaining fascinating insights into life many centuries ago. A true highlight awaits us at the Schlossberg (Castle Hill) in Homburg. From here, we stand high above the city's rooftops and enjoy an incredible view across the Saarland region all the way to the Bliesgau. It must be particularly magical here at sunset. But the tour isn't over yet. To conclude, we descend into the largest sandstone cave in Europe. Equipped with helmets and headlamps, we explore the narrow passages deep underground. The cave isn't naturally formed; it was formerly used for sand mining. Today, it resembles an underground labyrinth. After so many impressions, we end the day relaxing with coffee and cake while enjoying a view over the city.
