It is still unclear why only one bell was registered during the Second World War (Van Nieuwenhoven, H.J. (1996), Klokkenvordering 1942-1943). Moreover, the centuries-old bell frame contains traces of the presence of two bells in the passages where the large and small bells are currently located. On February 10, 1943, the bell(s) were removed from the tower by the German occupier, transported to Hamburg, and melted down there for the war industry.
