Day 1 – Besisahar to Chame (jeep / off‑road) — the opening leg of the Annapurna Circuit My Annapurna Circuit journey began on 29 August 2025, solo, unguided, without porter support from Manakamna to Thorongla pass culminating at Muktinath. 0:00 Journey begins at Manakamna in EV car 0:29 Reached Besisahar & started toward Chame 0:50 Iconic Tunnel 1:15 Waterfall 1 2:30 Driver details 3:18 Waterfall 2 4:13 Trek Permit checking 4:48 Annapurna Circuit map and altitude 5:13 Reached Chame Day 1 was not a trek yet — it was the wild ride to the trailhead. I left Mumbai → Kathmandu → Mankamna → Besisahar → Chame. From Besisahar the real Himalayan experience kicked in. Besisahar (≈ 1,350 ft) sits on the banks of the Marsyangdi / Marsyagandi River, a junction point for many Annapurna Circuit trekkers. From Besisahar onward, the trip shifts from paved highways to rugged mountain paths. The jeep ride from Besisahar to Chame (≈ 8,750 ft) is part road, part off-road, and many stretches are bone‑shaking, muddy, slippery. Marsyangdi Valley / Gorge The road hugs the gorge carved by the Marsyangdi River. You’ll see the river roar beside you, white water rapids, steep rock walls, and occasional landslides or rubble. The route passes through Syange / Bhulbhulé area Even though you’re in a vehicle, you begin to sense the changing landscape: forests, ridgelines, cascades, and narrowing valley walls. ! Waterfalls & Cascades Because this was just after monsoon season, many waterfalls were active, pouring down steep slopes beside the road. You passed by Tagharine and Chyamche waterfalls, which would have been powerful and photogenic. ! Tunnel & engineering quirks I also encountered a long tunnel along the way — potentially one of Nepal’s early mountain tunnels — slicing through a rock spine, a reminder that even remote Himalayan roads have had ambitious construction attempts. ! Dharapani permit check & route checkpoint At Dharapani, your permits (ACAP, TIMS) were checked. Dharapani is a known junction where the Manaslu and Annapurna routes diverge. The jeep path from Besisahar to Dharapani (≈ 40 km) itself traverses very bumpy terrain, through jungle, cliffs, and waterfalls. Beyond Dharapani, the road alternates between rough dirt track and broken gravel road, passing through villages such as Bagarchhap, Koprang / Kopar, Tal, Chyamche / Chamje, before reaching Chame. Arrival in Chame Finally, after hours of jolts, you reached Chame, the administrative center of Manang District, at ~2,600‑2,700 m (≈ 8,500–8,900 ft).
