A freight train runs leisurely along the coast with Mount Komagatake in the background. It is not carrying containers, but 150-meter-long rails. (A person who came from Tokyo to see it) "The way it twists and turns is amazing. It feels so strange." The Hokkaido Shinkansen aims to extend from Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto to Sapporo. Until now, rails were cut into 25-meter lengths at steelworks, then transported by ship or trailer and welded on-site. This time, a new transportation method was implemented for the first time, transporting rails by rail at 150 meters. The amount of welding work will be reduced to one-sixth, which is expected to shorten the process and improve quality. The rails departed Kitakyushu City on April 18th. 28 150-meter rails will be transported without any reloading. The journey from Kyushu, where the rails were manufactured, to Oshamanbe is approximately 2,100 kilometers. It will take four days to cross the archipelago. The freight train passes through the curves with ease. According to the Railway and Transport Organization, the steel rails have a complex cross-section and are characterized by bending left and right along the curves of the tracks. Furthermore- (Fujitoku reporter) "It's a very long rail, but it's only fixed in one place in the center." By fixing only one place of the nine-car train, the rails can slide freely in other places, allowing the train to run smoothly around curves. (Fujitoku reporter) "The townspeople are waving to welcome the freight train that will soon arrive." The freight train arrived at its final destination, Oshamanbe Station, around 2:30 p.m. It was greeted by townspeople and the town's mascot, "Manbe-kun." (Oshamanbe town resident) "I was surprised at how long it was."
