Clun Castle Battles The Heat Heading For Merseyside

Hello & Welcome to Harnetty Railways in this program we chase the flagship loco of Tyseley Locomotive Works in 7029 Clun Castle on her 2nd mainline trip of 2026 working Vintage Trains's Ticket to Ride from Birmingham to Liverpool & back with steam haulage starting from Nuneaton. We start at Rugeley Trent Valley on The WCML south of Stafford & it was the luck of the Irish on this 1 as we got a gd clean shot of her in the sun by 18 seconds as 18 seconds prior there was a northbound Pendolino fo Glasgow Central which cleared just in time before Clun came into view. We got a nice whistle out of it as well as she headed north towards Crewe. Crewe is were we got her next as she makes a brilliant departure with no assistance from 37240 on the rear. Caz of the late running due to her being nearly an hour late off Birmingham New Street due to the station being evacuated earlier in the day. Our plan on getting Clun through Acton Bridge was cancelled so a departure shot at Crewe was done in stead. We headed next to Warrington Bank Quay were we see 7029 arriving after turning at Earlestown. We got her arriving from the south end of Platform 3 & with gd reason as just seconds after the castle arrived LSL's 34046 Braunton & class 50 50050 Fearless headed south through platform 2 as they headed back to Crewe LSL from Carlisle Upperby LSL after working The Chairman's train the previous day. Here we see Braunton & Fearless head south with the 2 steam locos whistling to each other as the LSL pair pasted by. We have some close up look of the castle before heading to our local station in Lea Green in readiness for 7029's return journey. However there would be a massive 3 hour wait as Clun Castle was held at Huyton for 2 hours till further instructed as news came through a massive lineside fire happened on the WCML between Acton Bridge & Winsford which did bring out Chashire's Fire & Rescue service. Mixed reports came as the fire was away from the railway or reports that Ian Riley's 44871 despite being dragged by 57012 to Crewe Heritage Centre from Carnforth WCRC some hot cinders escaped from the black 5's ash pan. It was not till after 7:30pm that 7029 finally got going again & we were lucky as you will see in the going away shot a late running Northern unit arrived at the station but thankfully stopped as Clun Castle went by to end this video. Following this trip Network Rail Imposed a code black restriction on mainline steam caz of the fire risk & the chaos that happened on the WCML which had resulted in our filming plans for 44871 on The North Wales Coast being cancelled.
