NOT a good day for 7029 Clun Castle with the Cathedrals Express to Liverpool. 11th July 2026

7029 Clun Castle headed The Cathedrals Express to Liverpool. A bad start to the day after a points failure led to an hour late starting. However made up time to arrive in Liverpool Lime Street more or less on time. The ECS then went to Golborne Jn., led by 37240,so it could be turned, before heading back to Warrington Bank Quay to be stabled for the afternoon. Seen both ways through Newton le Willows. A quick glance of 34036 Braunton and 50050 (D400) heading back to Crewe on the WCML. Then on to WBQ to see the tour stabled in the up goods line, before 37240 leads again into Lime Street . Finally a trip to Crewe to see 44871, hauled by 57012, to Crewe Heritage Center, ready to haul th North Wales Coast Express the following day. Unfortunately the Black 5 wasn't needed in the end. Network Rail imposed a steam ban, after 44871 started a fire at Acton Bridge., closing the WCML for hours and delaying the Cathedrals Express for nearly 4 hours #7029 #steamlocomotive #railtour #liverpool #vintagetrains #blackfive #44871 #class37
