Speech therapist's report: sensory alalia, OHP-1 Duration of intervention up to OHP-3: 12 months (ongoing). At the time of presentation: • Speech comprehension was limited to everyday and familiar situations. Her passive vocabulary was quite good: she knew many objects and animals and could answer simple questions. However, difficulties arose when the speech instructions became more complex or the wording of the question changed. Heidi also didn't understand the difference between questions. At such moments, she became confused and simply listed everything she saw and knew, ignoring the essence of the question. • The girl spoke but did not understand the meaning of her own speech: independent speech was not developed, and she often repeated words and phrases she heard without understanding (echolalia). • Grammar was practically undeveloped. The girl confused prepositions and word endings, could not correctly inflect words by number and case, and often used them only in their initial form. Because of this, she had difficulty understanding many speech structures and constructing correct sentences. • The girl demonstrated her desires and needs more often through behavior than words: she could be capricious, upset, or cry if she was not understood. • Attention, memory, thinking, and other higher mental functions did not meet age norms. After 12 months of remedial work, Heidi reached the OHP-3 level. • Heidi understands spoken language well, answers questions, follows instructions, and communicates freely with others. • Heidi has developed independent speech: she talks about events and impressions and can maintain a dialogue. • Her speech has become more grammatically correct: Heidi knows prepositions, correctly uses words in gender, number, and case, and constructs common sentences. She occasionally makes mistakes, but increasingly notices them and corrects them independently. • Heidi independently explains her desires, feelings, and needs in words. There are no longer any tantrums or behavioral reactions associated with a lack of understanding of speech. • Attention, memory, thinking, and other higher mental functions are in line with age norms. • Her speech development level is currently approaching OHP-4, and work on improving her speech is ongoing. Her interventions are ongoing. Heidi is now 9 years old and has completed first grade. She really enjoys studying and learning new things. She enjoys going to school, completing assignments, and rejoicing in her successes. Heidi enjoys drawing, cooking with her parents, and making various crafts and toys out of paper. She also takes gymnastics classes, which she attends with great interest. Over the past year, the girl has become more independent, confident in her abilities, and actively communicates with others. Each new success helps her move forward and discover new opportunities.
