Now, let's understand a little more about another very important component: the transformer's internal connections and the types of connections! We showed that there are basically two types of coils: barrel and pancake, but what about the internal connection? How is it done? As mentioned in the previous video, in a three-phase transformer, we have 3 groups of coils in the primary and 3 groups in the secondary. Since there are 3 coils, they can be connected in star or delta configuration. In star configuration, there would be 4 connection points, and in delta, only 3. Both primary and secondary can be connected in either configuration, thus offering several options: DELTA – DELTA STAR – STAR DELTA – STAR STAR – DELTA The most common connection for three-phase transformers is DELTA – STAR, meaning there would be 3 conductors in the primary and 4 in the secondary, with the neutral generated inside the transformer, in the center of the star. There are also transformers where each secondary coil is actually a set of 2 coils, allowing the transformer to have 3 voltage values between phases in its secondary: 220, 380, or 440, depending on the coil connection.
