La Revolución Mexicana: La Guerra Que Destruyó a los Dueños de México

The Mexican Revolution: The War That Destroyed Mexico's Owners Mexico had a president, a Congress, and laws. But before 1910, much of the country had something else: it had owners. In this documentary, we reconstruct the Mexican Revolution from a different perspective. Not as a list of battles or presidents, but as the collapse of an entire world: the Mexico of the hacienda owners, the ruling families, the large landowners who controlled the land, the water, the labor, the credit, and even the governor of their region. In 1910, there were more than eight thousand active haciendas in Mexico. A few families controlled entire regions as if they were their private property. In Yucatán, a handful of surnames dominated the henequen industry and the workers, who were bound by debt. In Morelos, the sugar haciendas owned the water. In Chihuahua, a single family came to control more than two million hectares. That whole world seemed eternal. And it rested on one thing: the protection of the State. When that protection collapsed, the documents remained signed and sealed. But they were worthless. We explore the machine that sustained the landowners, the door Francisco Madero opened but couldn't close, the moment Emiliano Zapata shifted the question from who should govern to who truly owned the land, the material collapse of the haciendas during the war, and the law that finished what the weapons began: the 1917 Constitution and the long agrarian reform that followed. This is the story of how the Mexican Revolution didn't just destroy governments. It destroyed the certainty that a few surnames could own Mexico forever. Not all the surnames disappeared. Nor did the stones. But the country where a few could feel like they owned Mexico, that country did fall. And when power disappears, the stone remains. — If you're interested in these stories where land, haciendas, and surnames reveal how power truly operated in Mexico, subscribe to the channel and turn on notifications. Every week we investigate a power structure that believed itself eternal and ultimately collapsed.
