At the Battle of Buena Vista, fierce fighting erupted across rugged ravines and plateaus as repeated Mexican assaults threatened to overwhelm the U.S. line. From the desperate stand of the 2nd Indiana and Jefferson Davis's Mississippi Rifles to the thunderous artillery fire of Washington's and Bragg's batteries, Buena Vista became one of the bloodiest and most dramatic battles of the Mexican-American War.
