A reading from the Song of Songs 3:1-4b This is what the bride says: “On my bed at night, I sought him whom my soul loves; I sought him, but I did not find him. I will rise and go about the city, in the streets and in the squares, seeking him whom my soul loves.” I sought him, but I did not find him. The watchmen found me as they go about the city: “Have you seen him whom my soul loves?” As soon as I passed them, I found him whom my soul loves.” Today’s Psalm Psalm 62:2, 3-4, 5-6, 8-9 R/. My soul thirsts for you, my God O God, you are my God, earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you, my flesh faints for you, as a parched and weary land where there is no water. R/. How I gazed upon you in the sanctuary, seeing your power and your glory! Your grace is better than life; my lips will praise you. R/. All my life I will bless you and lift up my hands in your name. I will be fully satisfied as with the richest of foods, and my lips will praise you with joyful songs. R/. For you have been my help, and in the shadow of your wings I sing for joy. My soul clings to you, and your right hand upholds me. R/. Gospel of the day A reading from the holy Gospel according to John 20:1-2, 11-18 On the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb early in the morning, while it was still dark, and saw that the stone had been removed from the tomb. She ran and went to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved, and said to them, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we don’t know where they have put him!” Mary stood outside the tomb, weeping. As she wept, she bent over to look into the tomb and saw two angels in white, seated where Jesus’ body had been, one at the head and the other at the foot. They asked her, “Woman, why are you crying?” She replied, “They have taken my Lord away, and I don’t know where they have put him.” At this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not realize that it was Jesus. Jesus asked her, “Woman, why are you crying? Who is it you are looking for?” Summing to him, he was the gardener. “Sir,” she said, “if you have carried him away, tell me where you have put him, and I will get him.” Jesus said to her, “Mary!” She turned and said to him, “Rabboni!” (which means “Teacher”). Jesus said to her, “Do not hold on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’” Mary Magdalene went and announced to the disciples, “I have seen the Lord!” And she told them what he had said.
