The insulation resistance of a photovoltaic system in an installed IT network is a very important measurement for assessing the condition of the insulation of system components such as solar modules and cable infrastructure, and serves as an indicator for early detection and localization of faults. In the past, we often encountered insulation faults on PV systems caused by an unsuitable cable type, and we are in the final stages of resolving this problem by replacing the cables. Now, as shown in the video, a new and far more far-reaching problem appears to be emerging. A very large proportion of our solar modules are beginning to chalk on the backing film, and some exhibit severe cracks in the film. We have observed that the insulation resistance on the PV systems continues to deteriorate, despite replacing the cables. In the video, we see how poor the ISO values ​​of individual modules already are, and that several modules have even had to be taken out of service because they clearly no longer comply with the required limit of 40 MOHM x m2 and thus no longer meet their stated protection class.
