Emilia Romagna- Monte Ventasso- Lago Calamone -HD

Lake Calamone, also known as Lake Ventasso, is located on the northwestern slope of Mount Ventasso, near Ramiseto in the province of Reggio Emilia. It is a significant glacial lake within the Tuscan-Emilian Apennine National Park and within the "Monte Ventasso" Natura 2000 Network site. The lake is fed primarily by a tributary stream that flows into the southeast corner, as well as a myriad of streams flowing down the southern slope. It was artificially enlarged in 1956 with the construction, by the State Forestry Corps, of a dam-bridge over its outlet (the Lonza Torrent). This intervention increased the lake's height and depth (maximum depth 13 m), and significantly expanded the surface area and volume of the reservoir, also modifying its shape and the ecosystems previously present. Like all lakes of glacial origin, it is subject to an evolution that will lead in successive phases to filling, to the formation of a peat bog and then of a grassy environment that will be colonised by the forest.
