A Small House Hidden Behind the First One

Nam Da House is a compact home built behind the owner’s parents’ house within a multigenerational family compound. With limited light, limited ventilation, and almost no outward views, the project turns inward. Instead of opening large facades, the house opens its center, creating a garden that brings daylight, air, vegetation, and daily life into the middle of the plan. A front patio negotiates the relationship with the parents’ house, while the central garden gives the new home its own intimacy. The low red-tile roof recalls vernacular buildings from Vietnam’s Central Highlands, and an existing tree passes through an opening in the roof — a simple gesture that shows the house adapting to what was already there. Nam Da House is not about spectacle. It is about turning a difficult condition into a brighter, fresher, and more human home.
