Sparring with a ridiculously curved sabre!
After the British fighting against Napoleon in Egypt in 1801, many officers took influence from the Shamshir that was popular there, and this led to a minority following for outrageously curved sabre blades for infantry officers. This sabre is therefore being used according to British military style. These swords vary immensely in size and weight, but here is a high quality reproduction of such a sword being put to the test. A shamshir inspired blade with massive curvature, fitted on a british type stirrup hilt sabre hilt. This one is 81cm in blade length and 870gram total weight, putting it at the larger end of the scale for such swords. Also, of the same type that was adopted by the 95th rifles for their infantry officers. Here is it used by Nick, instructor at the club, against Gareth, using a Darkwood armoury basket hilt, which represents the Scottish broadswords used at the same period.
