Authentic Meen Pollichathu recipe (Kerala style) made with fresh fish, a bold spicy masala, and the classic banana leaf wrap 🔥 This traditional Kerala fish recipe is known for its rich flavours, smoky aroma, and perfectly cooked fish that stays juicy inside. Recipe: Ingredients- For Fish Marination: • 3 tbsp ginger garlic paste • 2 tsp red chilli powder • 2 tsp Kashmiri chilli powder • 1 tsp turmeric powder • 2 tsp coriander powder • 1 tsp black pepper powder • Juice of 1/2 lemon • 2 tbsp coconut oil • Salt, to taste • Water, to adjust consistency For Masala Mixture: • 3 tbsp coconut oil • 1/2 cup Madras onions, sliced • 10–12 curry leaves • 1/4 cup garlic, sliced • 4 tbsp ginger, chopped • 2 tomatoes, diced • 2 tsp Kashmiri chilli powder • 2 tsp red chilli powder • Salt, to taste • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder • 1 1/2 tbsp fennel powder • 2 tsp coriander powder • 2 tsp black pepper powder • 1/4 cup water • 1/4 cup coconut milk For Frying: • 6 tbsp coconut oil • 6–8 curry leaves For Wrapping: • 5–6 banana leaf pieces (lightly heated over flame to soften) Method- 1. Marinate & Fry the Fish In a bowl, mix all marination ingredients into a thick paste. Coat the fish evenly and let it marinate for 15 minutes. Heat coconut oil in a pan, add curry leaves and let them splutter. Place the fish and cook on each side for 3–4 minutes until lightly fried. Remove and let it rest. 2. Prepare the Masala Heat coconut oil in a kadhai. Add sliced onions and curry leaves; cook until translucent. Add ginger, garlic, and green chillies; sauté until fragrant. Add tomatoes, salt, and a splash of water; cook until soft and mushy. Add all powdered spices and cook until oil starts to separate. Pour in water and coconut milk; cook until the mixture thickens. 3. Assemble & Wrap Place a softened banana leaf on a flat surface. Spread half of the masala evenly. Place the fried fish on top. Cover with the remaining masala. Fold and wrap tightly, ensuring no gaps. Tie with a string if needed. 4. Final Cook Heat coconut oil in a pan. Place the wrapped fish and cook for 3 minutes on each side. Add a splash of water, cover, and let it steam briefly. 5. Serve Carefully open the banana leaf.
