Building a Soundproof Workshop: The First 6 Months ( Part 1)

G'day everyone. After many months hard at work it is finally time to start showcasing the biggest project I have ever undertaken. Building a soundproof workshop in my garage. One day this will be the location for the lathe and mill the number one priority is that it be soundproof. Unlike the current workshop, this space leaks sound and is right next to my neighbors. And the lathe and mill produce a ton of noise. Becuase I intent to be using this space for the next 10 years, my approach was do it once and do it right. Lets make a proper soundproof space. A real room in a room, with stud walls, acoustic sealant and 3 layers of gyprock. However. Before I could pick up a hammer and start nailing, there was close to 12 months of planning and research involved, and 6 months of prep work needed to get this space ready to be used. This garage was not intended to be used for anything other than a garage, and was woefully inadequate to be used as a space for constructing a workshop in. So in this first part I would like to showcase some of the many projects that were needed to bring this workspace into a state where we could begin constructing the soundproof workshop. These projects were done over the course of about 6 months, working on it on and off.
