Interview with Eddie Ed (Dynamic Rockers)
Oral history with Eddie Ed (a.k.a. Osvaldo Luna), recorded on April 2, 2024 as part of the Bronx Hip Hop Oral History Project. Eddie Ed is a dancer, pioneering B-boy, and founding president of the Dynamic Rockers, until 1979. Although the Dynamic Rockers are an established Queens crew, Eddie Ed was born in Puerto Rico and his family moved to The Bronx when he was 3-years old. Eddie Ed moved to South Ozone Park, Queens when he was about 9-years old and speaks about the differences he experienced between the two boroughs. He also speaks about the first time he saw Bboys and how he first thought of forming the legendary crew Dynamic Rockers. "It was the Dynamic Rockers who had the, now legendary, battle with the Rock Steady Crew in front of Lincoln Center; as well as the U.S.A. (United Skates of America) battle seen in the documentary, Style Wars. The group was formed by Eddie Ed (Osvaldo Luna). "The Dynamic Rockers’ style of B-Boying incorporated gymnastics and acrobatics, as well as the traditional footwork and uprocking styles of their Bronx counterparts. It was something that (even to this day) some b-boy purists say is not “true” B-Boying but it was to be precisely this style, which had more visual appeal (particularly to the uninitiated), that would later propel the art form into the mainstream."
