With an ever-increasing number of degree-awarding institutions available, Nigerians steadfastly continue their ‘mad rush’ for education. But what is the quality of this education we are receiving? Is it worth something, or nothing more than a means to an end? Dr. Tunde Adegbola is a research scientist, consulting engineer and cultural activist with wide ranging experience in information and communication media systems. One of his numerous contributions to that sector is the development of Cellular Automata Transform (CAT), one of the most advanced compression technologies employed on the global information infrastructure today. He is currently a member of the Digital; the group overseeing the transition to digital broadcasting and actively lectures in University of Lagos and University of Ibadan, two prestigious educational institutions in Nigeria. About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
