"Dagen" (idiom), the polar opposite of famous or wise words, refers to words that have become outdated and invite criticism or backlash. A "Dagen Dictionary" compiling such idioms is selling well. Even though they're idioms, they're often things we all say without realizing it. The phrase "Come bring some splendor," once used when inviting a woman to a dinner party, is now considered idiom. This is due to the current value system, which believes that equating women with "beauty" is inappropriate. On the other hand, saying "Don't cry, you're a man" to a man is also idiom. This is due to the fact that the Showa-era value system, which held that men shouldn't cry and treated men differently, is no longer valid.
