Scotland Isn’t as Easy as It Looks
Scotland is often seen as one of the best landscape photography locations in the world. I’d never been to the Highlands to make images before and, if I’m honest, I expected it to be easier. This video is a day spent working through that assumption. From poor light and missed opportunities, to standing in wind and rain trying to make something work, this wasn’t a day about coming home with a portfolio of images. It was a reminder that some places are harder than they look, not because they lack potential, but because they’ve been seen so many times before and the conditions rarely cooperate in the way you hope. En route to Glencoe, with limited places to stop and thousands of visitors passing through, it’s easy to find yourself standing exactly where everyone else has stood, making the same image. And yet it is still a remarkable place to be with a camera. Photography isn’t always about the image you take home. Sometimes it is about showing up, working through it, and learning how a place really is.
