This was an old structure that was in the process of being demolished. Typically, bridge demolition is carried out by cutting and lifting the deck slab with a diamond wire saw to lay down the girders. This accident occurred while site officials and a Structural Engineer were conducting an on-site inspection early yesterday morning to confirm whether work could proceed after discovering that a girder had been damaged during the process of cutting the slab.
