Taisei Corporation has developed a new type of half-section deck replacement machine and deck renewal technology for expressway renewal construction. This new, patented half-section deck replacement machine features independent hoisting and transport mechanisms, making it unclassified as a crane. The machine can be delivered, assembled, and dismantled and removed in just one day, and it features a wheeled, self-propelled system that eliminates the need for platforms or rails. A new joint method was also adopted to connect the newly constructed decks. This eliminates the need for reinforcement at deck joints along the bridge axis (the direction of vehicle travel), significantly improving workability. The strength of the filler mortar allows the road to be reopened in one day, shortening the construction cycle. The joints perpendicular to the bridge axis use a "head-bar joint" construction method that ensures fatigue durability equivalent to 100 years without the need for prestressing. As a result, construction time has been significantly shortened, significantly contributing to reducing traffic congestion caused by construction. In addition, the new technology has enabled us to open the facility completely on weekends (planned traffic opening), which means there are no restrictions on work zones due to construction on weekends, which has had the greatest effect in reducing congestion and contributing to reducing environmental issues (CO2).Furthermore, this has resulted in us being able to contribute to work style reforms in line with modern social conditions (8 days closed every 4 weeks).
