Course description: OBGYN in Traditional Chinese Medicine, an exploration into the history and development of Women's Health including a survey of the classical literature. This course is the first in a series of TCM and Integrative Women's Health.The field of Traditional Chinese Reproductive Medicine has a rich history of development spanning the last 2,000 years and much of the focus has been centered around conception, pregnancy, and postpartum care. From the essential beginnings to modern day, this course presents an overview of classic works and their authors. By understanding some of the original classical works in TCM obstetrics and gynecology such as Fu Ren Liang Fang and Jin Gui Yao Lue, we can begin to appreciate the clinical significance and effectiveness of herbal therapy and acupuncture treatments that have been time tested for the treatment of OB GYN issues. On completion of this class the participant will: • Gain a summary framework for understanding the TCM approach to OB Gyn, including reference sources describing clinical treatment methods. • Become familiar with the TCM treatises that describe herbal formulations widely used to address pregnancy, labor and postpartum issues. • Gain an introduction to the standards of diagnosis and treatments used to address fertility issues in TCM.
