Part 2 Trotting Foal - Watch it Come to Life with Watercolor

Welcome to Part 2 of this trotting foal tutorial. In Part 1, we created the sketch and established the values. In this lesson, I begin adding watercolor to transform the drawing into a finished painting while keeping the freshness and energy of the original sketch. One of the challenges with watercolor is knowing when to stop. I want this foal to feel alive and moving, so you’ll see me use transparent layers, soft edges, and simple color choices rather than chasing every detail. This lesson is part of my Gentle Sketchbook Project, where we focus on observation, confidence, and enjoying the creative process one step at a time. In this video you’ll learn: • How I add watercolor over a completed value study • Building color without losing the drawing • Creating movement with soft edges • Keeping watercolor fresh and expressive • Knowing when a painting is finished If you enjoy horses, watercolor, drawing, and gentle art instruction, I’d love to have you subscribe and follow along.
