102. A questão do Narcisismo nas Psicoses (parte 1)

In this meeting, we discussed narcissism and libidinal economy in Freud, taking psychoses as a central focus and drawing direct implications for clinical management. The group revisited the theoretical evolution of the concepts of autoeroticism and narcissism in Freud's work, following the conceptual shifts that underpin the transition to a metapsychology of the Ego and libidinal investment. It was agreed that the chronological edition published by Companhia das Letras will be the group's main reference for consultations and citations. Subsequently, the discussion focused on the clinical aspects of psychoses, highlighting how certain modes of intervention—especially when operating as "attacks on delusion"—can be experienced by the subject as unbearable narcissistic damage. From this, the group explored the difference between modalities of libidinal investment and withdrawal, differentiating, in particular, melancholic states and schizophrenic conditions, paying attention to the consequences of these distinctions for the direction of treatment. Finally, we delve into the libidinal dynamics in the metapsychology of melancholia, exploring the metaphor of the "open drain" to consider the drainage of libido around the lost object and its effects on the consistency of the Ego.
