100. Por que a psicanálise incomoda tanto?

In this commemorative meeting—the group's one hundredth episode and in dialogue with Freud's birthday—we debated the historical resistance to psychoanalysis and why it continues to provoke discomfort to this day. The conversation began with a central question: what, in Freud's own invention, causes psychoanalysis to encounter so many obstacles, criticisms, and recurring attempts at delegitimization? Throughout the class, we discussed the roots of this resistance: psychoanalysis displaces the sovereignty of medical knowledge by maintaining that there is an unconscious knowledge at play and that it can emerge through the subject's speech. This gesture decentralizes the ego, shakes the fantasy of absolute control, and introduces an ethics of listening that is not reduced to protocols. We also addressed how, in different eras, attacks take on ideological and scientistic forms: caricatures of the practice, demands for validation through single metrics, and attempts at substitution with behavioral and adaptive models. At this point, we revisited what is at stake when suffering is treated as something to be quantified, normalized, or quickly eliminated. Finally, we situate these debates within the contemporary scenario, marked by neoliberalism, performance logic, and the medicalization of malaise.
