1st Sambar Backpack trip 2025. Day 1 (Discovery)

Inched out the time for a 3 day backpack trip, this area is one of the most famous hunting areas in Victoria, so needless to say we weren't alone! in fact we found 20 other hunters before we camped the first night. The river was slightly in flood so we weren't able to stick to the original plan of starting in the dark as it was just to risky. I also wasn't able to check out some of the areas i wanted once we were upstream. crossing the river wasn't too hard, but i did end up with wet balls looking for the shallow alignment for the others. Hiking in we walked through some of the best looking hunting country I've ever been in!! It was easy going and full of deer sign. After a quick stop for a midday glass on a very nice rock outcrop we set up camp and got out for an afternoon hunt. it was a perfect arvo for it. we managed to lay eyes on 4 deer the first night, 3 does, 1 calf and a stag of unknown size as I only seen the antlers for 0.5 of a second. part 2 should be done early next week so make sure you hit subscribe if you want to catch that.
