Are you tired? Not just physically, but that bone-deep weariness that comes from carrying too much, for too long, with no end in sight. "Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light." Matthew 11:28-30, NKJV 📖 About this verse: In the culture of Jesus' day a yoke was a wooden frame placed across the shoulders of two oxen binding them together to pull a load as one. The Jewish people of Jesus' time were living under a crushing religious system; the Pharisees had added hundreds of laws and traditions on top of Scripture rules about what made you worthy of God. It was exhausting. Most people felt like they could never measure up. And into that exhaustion, Jesus steps forward and says Come to Me. Not come to a system. Not come to a set of rules. Come to Me. And notice what kind of yoke He offers: easy and light. In the ancient world a good yoke was custom fitted, shaped to the specific animal wearing it so it would not chafe or hurt. Jesus is saying the yoke He is offering was made for you. It fits. It does not crush. And He promises two kinds of rest in verse 28: He says I will give you rest, that is, rest given, immediate, the moment you come. In verse 29, He says you will find rest for your souls, that is, rest found, deeper, the kind that grows as you walk with Him over time. 💬 What are you laying down at Jesus' feet this weekend?
