Artificial intelligence is a broadly applicable enabling technology, a catalyst for new, future technologies. As such, it has a disruptive effect, much like the steam engine, electricity, or computers did before it. While some haile AI as a savior, others primarily see its risks to stability and trust. Realistically, however, two developments will unfold simultaneously. First path: AI leads to a profound transformation from an information society to a knowledge society by linking raw data and transforming it into individually actionable knowledge. Knowledge is democratized, intelligence becomes a new commodity, and AI becomes the operating system for our society and for new business models and value creation. Second path: AI is primarily used for selective optimization and rationalization, amplifying attention dynamics and producing an inflation of content with negative effects on decision quality and trust. For the first path to be strengthened, a holistic view of AI, sovereignty, and cooperation on equal footing are crucial. Otherwise, society and the economy risk developing at three speeds: innovators, dependents, and those left behind. This means that for companies, the true potential of AI doesn't arise from "homeopathic" pilot projects or the optimization of individual processes, but from a full-stack transformation.
