1088 - West Midlands Metro: Black Country Valley extension Dudley - Great Bridge on 24th May 2026

Welcome to Podbaba Transport Video 1088. On Sunday 24th May 2026, we revisited the Black Country Valley extension that is due to open in Autumn 2026. On this visit, we filmed from Dudley Flood Street to Great Bridge but we included Cinder Bank (just beyond Flood Street on the way to Merry Hill). Work continues to progress at a good pace. All track and overhead has been in place for some time but major finishing jobs, such as concreting in the track and constructing walkways to stops, are well under way with testing of trams along the route due to start imminently. As you can see, the West Midlands was bathed in very hot sunshine so we took the opportunity to go out early when the temperatures were already a balmy 17C! Dudley Interchange is very well developed now and contractors were working, even on a Sunday morning, in an attempt to finish the project as soon as possible after the opening of the Metro line. A final summary for our May visit to the line is that it is now very well developed and we look forward to seeing trams being tested along the line very soon.
