HS2 Birmingham Full Route | Curzon Street to Bromford Tunnel West Portal, Washwood Heath, April 2026
Back in January 2026, I filmed the full HS2 Birmingham route from Curzon Street Station to Bromford Tunnel West Portal at Washwood Heath. That earlier video showed the route at the start of the year — and this new update follows the same corridor again, showing the major progress now visible across Birmingham. In this April 2026 update, we start at HS2 Curzon Street Station, where the new Birmingham terminus is now clearly rising from the ground. The station structure, approach works and surrounding construction areas are becoming far more defined, giving a much clearer view of how HS2 will enter Birmingham city centre. The route then continues towards Curzon No. 2 Viaduct, also known as Bellingham Bridge, where the steel arched bridge appears to be in its final preparations before being slid into position. This is one of the most recognizable structures on the Birmingham HS2 Curzon Street approach. Further along the corridor, the video follows progress at Duddeston Junction Viaduct, where works are now at an advanced stage, before moving towards Saltley Viaduct, which is getting closer to demolition as the HS2 route prepares to pass beneath the new bridge (which is still at the early stages of construction) and through this heavily constrained railway and road corridor. Between Saltley Viaduct and Aston Church Road, the HS2 "flood defence wall" is now nearly complete, showing how the new railway alignment is being formed through this section of East Birmingham. The newly opened Aston Church Road Overbridge is also now functional, marking another important change along the route. The journey then continues towards Washwood Heath, where work is in full swing with large numbers of piles being installed within the footprint of the future HS2 depot area. This section will play a major role in supporting the railway, with the line corridor now clearly visible across the site as the route approaches the Bromford Tunnel West Portal. This video gives a full aerial update of the HS2 Birmingham route, showing how much has changed between Curzon Street Station, Duddeston, Saltley, Aston Church Road, Washwood Heath Depot and Bromford Tunnel West Portal. Although this video may look like one continuous drone flight along the HS2 route, it was produced from several separate drone flights and individual video clips filmed from different take-off locations. All flights were carried out safely, legally, and with the required permissions where applicable. 🎥 Filmed on 26 April 2026.
