EU reacted “much faster than usual” to Russia’s pressure on Armenia | Richard Giragosian

Prior to last month’s Armenian elections, which ultimately saw the re–election of pro-Western PM Nikol Pashinyan’s party into power, Russia, the country’s largest trading partner, tried to apply pressure on the South Caucasus country by introducing severe limitations on the import of Armenian goods. “The EU, much to my surprise, moved much faster than usual and immediately, rapidly responded by extending specific financial help for export diversification in Armenia. And now again, we see 80% of Armenian exports will have no tariffs entering the EU,” Richard Giragosian, Founding Director of the Regional Studies Center, told TVP World. He added, however, that Russia is yet to react, saying “Russia does dominate Armenia in terms of the leading trade partner.
